Townships declare state of emergency

Heavy rain has caused major problems in and around the city. The Townships of Nolalu, Gillies, O'Connor, and Conmee have declared a state of emergency. The village of Hymers is currently being evacuated due to flooding. And the Hydro Station at Kakabeka has declared a Level 1 emergency.

The Municipality of Shuniah says avoid Lakeshore Drive. It's experiencing washout conditions from the over 80 millimetres of rain that's fallen, so far. As well, a section of highway 595 about three and half kilometres from the junction of 590 is washed out. Road crews are working hard to get things fixed, but all drivers are advised to proceed with caution in all areas due to the weather.
